Happy Independence Day to those that celebrate! America’s 239th birthday is upon us, and there are two big celebrations locally that you can take part in. They’re on separate days, so you can do both if you want, and still have time to head into Manhattan or Northern Brooklyn to watch the big Macy’s show.

Personally, I’d like to go around waving the 35-star American flag – the Appomattox flag – primarily as a reminder that the most important heritage represented by the Confederate battle flag is losing to the good guys.

Also: the schedule for the summer parks music series sponsored by State Senator Marty Golden has been released. The first concert in Shore Road Park is coming up next week. We’ve added the other Shore Road Park concerts to our full events calendar, which you can reference all summer long.
